BAWSI - Bringing Health, Happiness, and Hope

As a kid, our parents threw us into soccer or dance, or baseball. Anything to get us out of the house, interacting with other kids, and moving our bodies. Little did we know, we were learning extremely valuable skills like teamwork, leadership, persistence, and patience, all while enjoying time with our friends and making memories that helped build us into the adults we are today. For some kids, getting those opportunities isn’t so easy. Maybe mom and dad can’t afford it, maybe the school doesn’t offer it, maybe the child physically can’t engage in traditional athletics. That’s where BAWSI and their BAWSI Rollers program comes in. Third to fifth grade girls and boys with physical and/or cognitive disabilities are giving a chance to experience team sports. Some may be in a wheelchair, some may have autism, some may be deaf, but it doesn’t stop them from playing Sharks and Minos, or doing relay races. For an hour a week, these kids get to squirm, move, smile, laugh, interact and play in a unique environment that would otherwise not be available to them. BAWSI is not only helping them to be healthier and happier, but giving them an amazing experience to look forward to everyday and this is why we are proud to support them.  Our most recent grant of $10,000 was even doubled with the help of a matching donor. See how this organization is spreading their mission of bring health hope and wholeness to kids throughout Santa Clara County.
